ICE Struggles to Meet Quotas
Sources familiar with ICE operations revealed that Homan holds daily conference calls with ICE agents, expressing frustration over deportation figures. Acting ICE Director Caleb Vitello has reportedly instructed agents to aim for 1,200-1,400 arrests per day. However, ICE’s highest single-day total since Trump’s inauguration has been just 1,100 arrests, with numbers falling since then.
To fulfill Trump’s Inauguration Day promise of “millions and millions” of deportations, ICE would need to remove over 2,700 immigrants daily to reach 1 million deportations within a year. As NBC News has reported, arrests do not always lead to immediate deportations—of the 8,000 immigrants arrested in the first two weeks of Trump’s administration, 461 were released.
